Stress and You

I was reading an interesting article the other day about how stress affects your body.
There was a study conducted that found if a person was under 50 and had a stressful job, they were 70% more likely to develop heart disease as opposed to those who didn't find their jobs stressful.
70% more likely!!!
Can you believe that? We all know that stress is a bad thing, but that is a huge percentage!
Makes you wonder what the point is really. Here in this world, we have all these people, working hard to have a better life, and the chances are, they will die before they get to have one.
Working your self into an early grave, quite literally!
When people have stressful jobs, their eating and exercise habits often become a problem, and they often drink and smoke more to try and self medicate.
This adds to the stress we are putting our bodies under.
But also, the study that was conducted has found that stress appears to upset the nervous sytem that controls the heart. The part that tells it how to work and controls the heart rate. This is independent of the stress that the heart is under bad eating and exercise habits.
So it would seem that if you are in a stressful job, keeping healthy by having good diet and getting regular exercise is a great start, but ditching the stressful job would be the best bet.
